In-Game Advertising: Have It Your Way

In-game advertising is expected to reach $732 million by 2010, according to "Video Games Are the Next Frontier for Advertisers," a DecisionNote report from Yankee Group.

The projected figure of $732 million is five times the current market value of the category. Ads placed in video games accounted for $56 million in spending in 2005, and $34 million the previous year.

Currently, in-game advertising firms such as Massive, IGA Worldwide and Double Fusion create networks with video game publishers to sell inventory. However the report suggests that the console manufacturers including Sony and Microsoft, as well as game publishers like Electronic Arts, may bring in-game ad serving in-house in the future.

According to recent NPD Group figures there are approximately 100 million current-generation gaming devices in the U.S. market. While the 100 million installed-base is significant, overlaps exist. About 40 million U.S. households have one or more video game consoles. The next generation of consoles includes the Microsoft Xbox 360 that was released in November of last year; and the Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Revolution, both of which are expected to launch in the fall.

Prison Break actor charged in fatal LA crash

Actor Lane Garrison, who played an inmate on the hit TV show Prison Break, was charged Thursday with vehicular manslaughter in a car crash that killed a 17-year-old boy and injured two girls.

Garrison, who was charged with driving under the influence and giving alcohol to a minor, could face more than six years in prison if he is convicted.

The 26-year-old actor, whose character David "Tweener" Apolskis was killed on the popular Fox TV drama this season, was ordered to appear in court for an arraignment later Thursday. Prosecutors say they will ask a judge to hold him on $200,000 bail.

Prosecutors say Garrison had a blood-alcohol level nearly twice California's legal limit when he crashed his sport utility vehicle into a tree in Beverly Hills, killing 17-year-old Vahagn Setian and injuring two 15year-old girls.

Ocean's Thirteen: Vegas Baby Vegas

I heard it first on Robin Leach's Luxe Life Vegas — George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and the entire Oceans crew will be filming in Vegas this week. New to the team this year is Ellen Barkin. And according to Clooney Studio, everyone but Elliot Gould will be on location.

So, where can you go to get a glimpse of your fave movie stars? The Bellagio, Paris Las Vegas, and McCarren Airport. Steve Hall, I hope you get photos at the Bellagio!

The question is, are these Hollywood hotties going to just stick to their rooms and the set while they're in town? Or are they going to venture into public view for some down time. If I were a betting girl, and I am, I would put my money on bumping into them at the Palms, Shadow Creek, Wynn, and really going out on a limb - Tao? Who doesn't go to Tao. Steaks at N9NE anyone? Say around closing time?

Star Wars Obi-Wan Cloak $100,000 Wow

The brown hooded cloak worn by Obi-Wan Kenobi in the "Star Wars" films -- and then forgotten for years in a warehouse -- sold for $104,000 to an anonymous telephone bidder Tuesday at an auction of movie and TV memorabilia.

Audience members raised their paddles in rapid succession as costumes flashed across TV screens at Bonhams, a British auctioneer, as staff fielded phone bids from all over the world. When the hammer dropped on a Bond girl's cat-suit or Anthony Hopkins' army uniform, men in dark blazers whispered the prices into their cell phones.

"It's nerve-racking, of course it is," costume collector Kamran Raja said as the outfits from "Evita," which starred Madonna, were auctioned off. He made a bid, paying $5,200 to add a fur-lined dressing gown from the 1996 movie to his 40-piece collection, which he said included one of Madonna's bras.

Edmond: Love the Ending!

FOR 20 years, Lionel Mark Smith yearned to see David Mamet's provocative play "Edmond" as a film. At a birthday party for Mr. Mamet three years ago, when talk again surfaced about casting for "Edmond," Mr. Smith, a veteran actor, suggested a lead. What about William H. Macy?

"I saw the Doody Man a couple of weeks ago," Mr. Mamet recalled saying, referring to Mr. Macy, whose affectionate nickname in the so-called Mamet Mafia is Howdy Doody. "He's beginning to look more like a human and less like a puppet."

To millions of television and film fans who have admired his diverse roles in "Fargo," "Boogie Nights," "The Cooler," "Door to Door" and "Thank You for Smoking," Mr. Macy has always seemed more an actor's actor than a movie star. In "Seabiscuit," he almost stole the movie from the horse, with his comedic turn as the racetrack announcer Tick Tock McGlaughlin.

Casino Royale: Richard Branson Cameo

At the opening of the film, James Bond is sent on a mission in Prague to kill an MI6 section chief, Dryden, who has sold British secrets. Bond must make two kills to qualify for Double-0 status, granting him a lisence to kill: first, Dryden's associate, Fisher, and then the section chief himself. The killing of the associate in the men's room leads to the opening credits.

Action Packed, from start to finish, quite possibly the best James Bond yet?

The movie features cameo roles by British entrepreneur Richard Branson (seen being frisked at an airport).
